Heuh!

Last night it was announced that Stiffy took home his first Road March title with “Tip and Ben Ova,” weeks after reclaiming his Bashment Soca crown. Second place went to Red Plastic Bag with “Boat Ride” and third was Marzville with “Give It To Ya.” Bag’s “Boat Ride” took home the Stag Jam Tune award weeks prior at Foreday Morning, with a five way tie for second place between Stiffy (“Tip and Ben Ova”), Marzville (“Give It To Ya”), Hypasounds (“Dip“) Sanctuary (“Pick Me Up“),  and Scrilla (“Wood“).

With all due respects to Stiffy and RPB, if you were on the road for any of these jumps you know which song was more popular than these guys efforts: Freezy’s “Split In The Middle.” All decorum was lost whenever the opening notes of St. Lucian artiste’s two-year-old instructional screed dropped, with women, and some men (equality!), eager to showcase their flexibility, or lack thereof. Hands up if you had to pick a friend up from off the ground.

Lucian soca has been having a moment for like a year now, with Ricky T’s “Freaky Girls,” Teddyson John’s “Allez,” Motto’s “Bend Dong” and the aforementioned Freezy being in heavy rotation throughout the region.
