top25-final

With hundreds, if not thousands, of songs being released this year; it has been one of the busiest Crop Over seasons I have ever experienced. Ninety-percent of the music has been well written and produced as it seemed every artist was intent on creating a quality product. A few bad apples were in there but they did nothing to spoil the batch.

Imagine the headache that I got trying to form this Top 25. Using the party public’s reactions, site traffic, and radio play as a gauge-the construction of the Top25 began. Songs were added and songs were replaced. My fellow peers were consulted, and debates came about as it seemed that at least 100+ songs deserved a place.

However, the dust settled and below is what I believe were the songs of the summer. Lets get this thing started.

25| Lewwe Ball Up (Tamarind) – Level Vibes

Riddim/Producer: Straight Pull/Gary Serrao & Big Red The DJ for Gee Wizz Productions

Level Vibes stays within his element in “Lewwe Ball Up (Tamarind)” by not singing, but bringing his energetic personality to this instruction track. This one is extremely popular with the ladies.

24| Partyak (Party People Anthem) – King Bubba FM x Kerwin Dubois Feat. Jah Cure x Lil Rick

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/158206178″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: Stage Show/King Bubba FM & Kerwin Dubois

King Bubba and Kerwin Dubois’ posse cut would’ve been higher had it been released earlier in the season. This crowd favorite can still do a lot of damage in other countries for the rest of the year.

23| Bring De Ting – B-Roca

Riddim/Producer: Red Cup/Micheal “B-Roca” Holder

The B-b-b-b-beat boy Roca had many offerings for this year but the groovy “Bring De Ting” stood tall above the rest. It seemed like every DJ had it in their Crop Over mix.

22| Shocks – Verseewild

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/149660662″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: Scorpion Pepper/ Adam “King Bubba FM” Elias

Versee plays the dangerous double entendre game extremely well in “Shocks”. Wa ban wa ?!

21| My Life – Holla Bak

Producer:  Bass Ink Productions

Who can’t relate to liking the refreshing taste of rum and admiring beautiful women ? Who couldn’t resist singing along to the hook of Holla Bak’s “My Life” ?

20| Right Now – Khiomal x Brett

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/150400752″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Producer: Bombsquad Productions

Khiomal linked up with Brett Linton to bring us the extremely catchy “Right Now” with an equally catchy dance.

19| Come Out To Win (Who Drinking Rum?) – King Bubba FM

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/154614105″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: June Bomb (1st Edition)/ Adam “King Bubba FM” Elias

The call heard around bars island wide. King Bubb FM’s drinking anthem had everyone calling for more libations in numerous fetes and on the road.

18| Next To De Rope – Mikey

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/152400956″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Producer: Chris Allman

Mikey’s ode to disobeying the NCF’s regulations on revelling outside of paying bands was so popular that it had a pan remix, and another remix with some guy named Ricky Reid.

17| Bashment Farm – Farmer Ubu

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/148989202″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: Scab Juice/Super Lynks

Ubu made sure that “dis one gaw buss before Crop Over start” as the young farmer’s only song left its mark and made us forget all about Old MacDonald.

16| Last Man To Leave – Lil Rick

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/151749651″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: All Inclusive/ Adam “King Bubba FM” Elias & Dwaingerous

Bring the Police and/or Security for the people’s champ Rick as he’s making sure he’s the last one to leave the party. This one was a favorite among the extreme feters.

15| Take Mi Stress Away – Saddis

Riddim/Producer: Sour Sop/ Studio B

Saddis shows he can do bad all by himself as he completely annihilates the Studio B production. He probably helped a guy out with a lady with this one.

14| Great Day – Lil Rick

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/154615990″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: June Bomb (1st Edition)/ Adam “King Bubba FM” Elias

Rick shows that there is nothing wrong with some positive declaration. This one was heavy on the airwaves as well as kadooment day.

13| Nothing To Say – Big Red The DJ

Producer:  Gary Serrao, Anthony Lowhar and Big Red The DJ for Gee Wizz Productions

Who would think that one of Big Red’s more “toned down” songs would be such a favorite this year ? Its hard not to groove and sing along to the hook of “Nothing To Say’. Especially after having a few.

12| So Good – Hypa Sounds

Producer: Jason “Shaft” Bishop

The consistent Hypa Sounds just knows how to capture having a good time, and turn it into an amazing song. “So Good” follows the blueprint to a “T”. Another year no misses.

11| Roller Coaster – Red Plastic Bag

Producer: Nicholas Brancker

RPB completely shocked the public by straying out of his traditional sound with “Roller Coaster”. However, the quality of production, lyrics, and melodies made this one a quick favorite. It sounds just as good live too.

10| Carnival Addiction – Lead Pipe

Riddim/Producer: Sour Sop/ Studio B

Lead Pipe perfectly captures the feeling that arises during each Crop Over season. I expect “Carnival Addiction” to do just as well outside of Barbados. Looking at you Trinidad.

9| Still My Home – Ian Webster

Producer: Nicholas Brancker

The only social commentary song [Spoiler alert] featured on this list as it not only gave Ian Webster the Pic-o-de Crop crown, but the powerful message in this song was very moving to both young and old.

8| Ducking – Fadda Fox

Producer: Darien Bailey & Kevin ” Daddy Bubbles ” Marshall

Picture this. This song comes on in the party. You’re fully enjoying the vibes and before you know it, as soon as it hits the chorus, you are the only one left standing as everyone is “ducking”. True story. Great song.

7| Stush – Shanta

Producer: Dwain “Dwaingerous” Antrobus

Shanta had every lady, and a couple of guys, singing the groovy “Stush” word for word. Great road mix too.

6| Mega Monday – Sanctuary

Producer: Chris Allman & Young D

Before this came out I heard this was going to be big. Boy did it live up to the hype. “Mega Monday” dominated Kadooment as it tied for second for ‘Road March’.

5| Bacchanal Road – Imani

Producer: De Red Boyz

Big things were expected from Imani’s “Bacchanal Road” as this was very popular with the ladies from the beginning. The song lived up to its billing as it was ‘People’s Monarch’ and it tied for second for ‘Road March’.

4| Meh Rum – Gorg

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/147224875″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”600″ height=”120″ iframe=”true” /]

Riddim/Producer: Big Band/Stock Room Productionz

What a year for Gorg. Completely upsetting the odds as this song won ‘Party Monarch’, and tied for first as the tune of foreday morning. The remix with Saucy Wow is just as good too. The broken-hearted drunkards salute you sir.

3| Pankatang – Biggie Irie

Producer: De Red Boyz

“Pankatang” is another one of those songs that became an immediate favorite from its inception. This feel-good song went on to win Biggie the “Sweet Soca” crown. No need to sell that car or van now.

2| Benup – Porgie & Murda

Riddim/Producer: Bang Bang/Peter Coppin

Yeah yeah I know, Less of them. But there was no denying that this was the clear winner of Road March (I mean they still won but hey) as every DJ tried their best to fit this song in this mix. Unfortunately It didn’t but it did tie for first as the tune of foreday morning. Those winnings should be use to compensate all the women with “Ben Up” bumper insurance claims.

1| Ah Feeling – Lead Pipe & Saddis

Riddim/Producer: Axiom/Uprising Studios

The tune that capitalized Lead Pipe and Saddis’ amazing year. “Ah Feeling” is bigger than just a “Crop Over song” as the guys perfectly capture that “international sound” without sounding too pop. One of the few songs this year you didn’t get tired of hearing- and you won’t be tired of it as this will be playing straight into 2015. The legend Arturo did a sax remix to make sure it goes clear into the stratosphere.

Honorable Mentions: Too much to mention. The music this year was amazing.
