LL Cool J Isn’t “Bajan” After All
For years, entertainer LL Cool J has always been referenced as one of the many world talents to be of Barbadian descent. I mean, just check these lists here, here, and here. (He even dropped a Bim-related bar that one time.) His believed roots to Barbados came through that of his Grandfather, who migrated to the United States for a better life. “Yes my family’s from Barbados and my grandfather’s real cheap. Anyone who knows Caribbean people knows they’re very cheap, you know. He didn’t want to buy turntables. That wasn’t his thing soooo, he was saying no, no, no, no, no,” he has been regularly quoted in some of the aforementioned lists as saying.
Unfortunately, however, the Kangol pioneer’s name has to be struck from the record. On Tuesday’s episode of PBS’s Finding Your Roots, with Henry Louis Gates Jr., the NCIS star made a startling discovery when he traced his lineage – finding out that his believed grand parents were not actually his mother’s actual birth parents.
(The series does show, however, that his believed Great Grandparents were actually from Barbados).
Cha. Well, as long as we still have the likes of Meagan Good,
Stacey Dash Gwenyth Paltrow, and Melyssa Ford, to fawn over, I think we’ll be alright. Watch a clip of the Finding Your Roots episode below via EW, and catch the full episode via PBS here
