Rihanna’s on The Song, But She’s Definitely Not In The Video For “Famous”
Not safe for work.
Last night Kanye West premiered his video for “Famous,” the first visual from the critically acclaimed LP The Life of Pablo. The short is…umm…interesting, to say the least. It shows West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, and Caitlyn Jenner, laying lifeless and naked in a bed with statues of other nude celebrities: Rihanna, Chris Brown, George Bush Jr., Donald Trump, Anna Wintour, Ray J, Amber Rose, Bill Cosby. The video has a voyeuristic aesthetic, as the camera hovers over the bodies, sometimes showing close-ups of the eeriy lifelike figurines, like a pervert creepily recording footage of a just completed tryst with hopes of future blackmail.
Hell, the doppelgängers looked so real that I thought it was Rihanna in bed when I first saw it. The look, location, and detail of the tattoos seemed accurate, and I swore “she” was breathing. But after watching it a few more times it hit me: Fenty’s jawbone int suh hard. The video is inspired by “Sleep,” a painting made by artist Vincent Desiderio. Watch below.
