This 80s Remake of Calvin Harris x Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For” Takes you Back to the Days of Big Boxcy TVs
YouTube user Saint-Laurent’s full 80’s rework of Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For” is not only a stroke of genius, but it takes you back to a simpler time. (Well, depending on your age of course). The dance jam is pitched down to a downtempo lo-fi power ballad, with the accompanying video, which opens like a vcr player tracking, being a glorious low quality, scrambled version of the original. The distortion is a callback to the days of fixing antennas, fidgeting with knobs, and giving the set a few hard slaps just to get the picture right and get rid of that annoying hum. Its also a callback to programme breaks on “only choice,” slotting in right beside by Kenneth G’s “Forever In Love” and “Ten Tons of Love” by Biggie Irie. Watch below.
