DJ Spider Goes Back to Basics With the Whistle & Drum Riddim
Last year’s One O’Clock riddim shone despite its simplicity, with the production delivering some of the year’s biggest songs like Marzville’s “Bang Bim” and Stiffy’s “Tek off Something,” which won him the inaugural Bashment Soca Competition. Spider returns back to his bare bones formula with the Whistle & Drum riddim. With its shrill penny flute and 1-2-3 drum pattern, this is the Pro tools version of interschool sports. The riddim features Scrilla with the extremely short “Wood” (No pun, its run time is under two minutes) and Marzville trying to replicate last years success with the repetitious “Gas it up” (and it’s accompanying video). Hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Listen and watch the video for “Gas it up” below.
